Declassified Bunker Of The USSR

Would you like to visit a former secret object of the USSR which is declassified now?

In 1960 no Moscovite knew who inhabited the regular house. Sometimes the light was on in the house and figures of people could be seen from the windows. The ground floor looked strange enough as its windows built up. And only a few officials with a corresponding access to secrecy knew what was going on there.

A massive concrete dome which is marked in gray in the picture was hidden under the simple brick walls.

Sometimes the light was on in the house and figures of people could be seen from the windows. The ground floor looked strange enough as its windows built up. And only a few officials with a corresponding access to secrecy knew what was going on there.

The house was a masked entrance to a secret military object on the territory of the USSR or an underground nuclear bunker. What you see in the picture is an entrance to the bunker.

The entire construction can withstand blast waves and radiation easily. The door is 0,5 meters thick. Let’s go underground.

The narrow corridor is curved so that a shock wave won’t penetrate the inside of the building.

Another floor. One of the walls is semi-circled being the wall of a round mine that is located deep underground.

In spite of the fact we are 14 meters deep it still seems that the stairs are endless.

‘Attention! One half of the way is left’

The 12th floor.

“Motherland is calling!”

Now we are 65 meters deep.

The corridor leads to the bunker.

Now we’ll have to through a circulation control office.

The steel multi-layered walls will protect you from harmful influence of radiation.

It is difficult to enter the bunker.

The bunker consists of 4 huge blocks connected with corridors.

The object was constructed in 1958-1963. It occupies over 7000 square meters. Every employee had an access only to the room he worked in and didn’t even know about existence of other blocks.

In 1970 it was the decided that the object should undergo reconstruction because of some technical problems available. Military equipment was dismantled and removed.

Because of financial problems the object was declassified in 2005 and sold out to a commercial company. However, this is a traditional version of what was going on here. In fact nobody knows what the bunker contained and why it was declassified.

Some people think that newly created bunkers are much more modern and are located much deeper making maintenance of the bunker inappropriate.

According to one version, ballistic missiles could be launched from here.

‘Vigilance is our weapon. Be vigilant!’

‘If you forgot where our borders start, we’ll help you to land!’

Now a museum of cold war is organized in the bunker where one can try on respirators, protective gear, hold different guns, etc.

Sizes of the place are really impressive.

The door leads to the subway.

After a nuclear blast the bunker uses the regimen of harsh austerity. Ventilation systems are switched off for a while and only emergency lamps can be turned on. The system is searching for warehouses with food products, measures the level of radiation and starts air supply.

Remote parts of the tunnel are not reconstructed.

The lowest block.

Only major tunnels are corridors are allowed to be examined. The major part of the construction is closed for visitors as there is a risk they won’t be able to find their way back.

It is important what questions are asked by a person who attended the bunker, what he is worried about and what ideas come to his mind.

    • I was asking myself the same thing. Even if it is a CRT display, still the flat screen did not come out until the 1990s. (That we know of ….)

    • Perhaps functioning examples of the original period monitors (CRTs?) are unavailable or far too expensive. It wouldn’t surprise me. I’ve heard in the past that NASA had to buy decades old hospital equipment on eBay for parts since it was the cheapest place to buy compatible parts for shuttles.

  1. Another great article from English Russia. The fact that this was so shallow… and the small diameter doors meant this was more of a “show and tell” site. Real blast doors are like the ones in a bank vault – several feet thick.

  2. Impression ant the quantity and larger bunkers; couldn’t be possible the Government, looking into remodel again to be used. Human thoughts of using nuclear bombs: could come around again. Many people could be saving in those bankers. That is why I have been mention about Russian people get friendly with the rest of Europeans, Russia are most part of Europe, and get them to invest in Russia, most in Siberia. I mention also Russia could have one hundred of million people more, if we considered the size of the country. Will be beneficial for Russia: and the rest, of European countries too. Mr. Vladimir Putin could look into those issues serious about it. Also Russia should be the central; for the exploration of Interplanetary Cosmos, or Universe .I would like to mention of change the interplanetary vehicles. I am sure we have them in the Cosmos, must be life in some planet, and I real know would be possible engines using hydrogen and electromagnetism, both are up there. Also the gravity could be used been attract. The velocity of such interplanetary vehicles; already exist some here, in the Cosmos. I am not crazy, and also not involved with science fiction. I wish could somebody believe me in Russia. Not everything we could use for fun; and because human nature are crazy, we have to be anonymous . A.Oscar

i figure the LCDs are either the most obvious admission of BS, or perhaps they’re just cheaper to run all day then tube displays. (which also have that lovely blue from some soviet era cockpits
