Here is a bit of interesting news we learned today. If you purchased a Surface RT and are interested in buying a Surface Pro, Microsoft will offer you a credit for your trade-in towards the purchase of a Pro. We called two Microsoft's stores and both confirmed that there is a deal in place but required us to come in to learn more about the offer and would not give us more details over the phone.
We find this deal to be quite interesting as Microsoft is looking to build out the user base of the RT and the Pro but by allowing this offer, Microsoft would be shrinking the size of the RT consumer base. But for the consumer, this is a fantastic deal if you wish to upgrade your current device to the more powerful Pro.
Like nearly any trade-in at any store, it will depend on the condition of the device, if you have the box and manuals. Also, it will not be a 1:1 trade for the new Pro, you would be required to pay the difference in price between the two units.
We should point out that demo units are now being spotted in Microsoft stores around the US and they will go on-sale next weekend. With a starting point of $899, the Surface Pro is a fully featured tablet that can run legacy applications as well as all of the apps in the Windows Store.
[Update] Seems to be a lot of confusion going on right now as some stores are saying they will provide a credit towards the Pro (Cincinnati and Indianapolis stores both confirmed this) while others are saying there is no such deal. It's best to check with your local store before heading out in hopes of receiving a trade in credit.
