You can go punting on the Avon in two places: Around the Botanic Gardens, starting from the Antigua Boat Shed or in the city, starting from Worcester Street Bridge. We chose the Botanic Gardens. The boat shed is right outside the gardens near the vegetable garden.
Here we are waiting for our punt to start.
This is also where the gull photos are from.
Here comes our punt with the previous passengers:
Now we are aboard.
Duck diving for food:
Here we are being photographed by tourists. I photographed them right back! They discovered that and laughed quite a bit.
These little black scaups are the only diving ducks in new Zealand. Meaning, no butt sticking out of the water, the really dive. They do it all the time. That is the reason why it is impossible to take a “good hair day” photo of them.
Here we can see the vegetable garden just before we are back at the boat shed.
When we came back they tried to sell us photos of ourselves, so be warned! However, punting on the Avon was really nice and relaxing. Eating cake and having coffee in the boat shed café was also very nice and relaxing. The boat shed café has 2 cats. We only got to see one of them. It also has a sign asking people not to feed the gulls inside the café.
